Shabbat is an opportunity to take a break and connect with community

Unique Shabbat and Holiday experiences are at the core of community building at Queens Hillel. We offer communal Shabbat meals during select weekends, weekly Se’udah Shlishit (the 3rd Shabbat meal), weekly Shabbat Shacharit (morning services led by our Orthodox student group, Nachalah and OU-JLIC), and opportunities for you to host your own Shabbat experience from the comfort of your home or dorm!

To get involved with planning one of these amazing opportunities, join a Production Team. Production Teams are tasked with creating fantastic holiday and Shabbat experiences for our students and are a great opportunity for students with a passion for creating and designing experiences.

Shabbat DInners

Queens Hillel hosts kosher, catered communal Shabbat dinners regularly throughout the year. We also host at least 2 Kabbalat Shabbat services at each communal meal and student-led programming after dinner. Saturday morning begins with OU-JLIC style services in the Queens Hillel Beit Midrash, followed by student-led programming. Se’udah Shlishit (the 3rd meal on Shabbat) and Havdallah are hosted by OU-JLIC right here in the neighborhood. All communal Shabbat dinners are designed by students and for students. To join a Shabbat dinner production team or to inquire about starting a production team, contact Ben@qchillel.org.

Out of the Box Shabbat

We know BIG meals are not for everyone. Some of us just like to relax and enjoy a home cooked meal, which is why we coordinate Out of the Box Shabbat. OOTBS gives you the opportunity to be a host or a guest of a small meal in the comfort of your own or someone's home. We'll even match you to a meal if you're not sure where to go (when safe)! Hosts are provided an Out of the Box Shabbat Box that includes Shabbat dinner essentials (like challah and blessing cards) and a gift card to purchase food too. Guests just need to sign up and show up!
