Shabbat

There is a vibrant community at Queens College each and every Shabbat of the semester. Students who live in the dorm (The Summit), apartments in surrounding neighborhoods, and many others join in a wonderful celebration of Shabbat.

QC Hillel offers the following Shabbat programming:

  1. Tefillah - There are prayer services every Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon of the semester. Traditional Orthodox services are offered each week, and egalitarian service options are available at select times. Please be in touch with Rabbi Robby Charnoff, our JLIC Rabbi for information on all services. All are welcome. Click here for this semester's Shabbat Calendar.
  2. Hosted Shabbat meals - On the weeks where there is no formal catered meal program offered, students organize Shabbat meals in the community and welcome guests and participants into their homes for meals. If you are interested in hosting or being hosted, contact the Shabbat Committee.
  3. Se'udah Shelishit (Third meal) - Rabbi Robby and Shoshana Charnoff will host a light and lively community meal on Saturday afternoons. For information, please contact Shoshana.
  4. Shabbatonim - Hillel will be running three weekend programs in both the Fall of 2012 and the Spring of 2013. Each Shabbaton will include a catered Friday night dinner and Saturday lunch, as well as themed programming organized by our Shabbat Committee and our JLIC educators, Rabbi Robby and Shoshana Charnoff.  Advance registration and payment ($20 per Shabbaton) must be received by the Wednesday before the program. Click here for the calendar of Shabbatonim.
  5. Free Shabbat Dinners - Hillel offers a free Shabbat dinner at the beginning and end of each semester. Advance registration is required. Dinners are fully catered and draw between 150 and 250 students. It is a wonderful gathering of Jewish students from different backgrounds.
