Religious Life

Judaism as a Religion: The concept that the Jewish People are in a covenantal relationship with God, and our obligations, activities, and beliefs associated with Judaism are in service of that relationship. We welcome all Jews who pursue Jewish life through a religious lense across the spectrum of denominational or ethnic backgrounds, traditions, habits, and beliefs.

Minyanim (prayer services), shi’urim (classes), events, discussion groups - Hillel has them all! Rav Sara, our Senior Jewish Educator, leads the Egalitarian Initiative, which is a prayer and learning community for egalitarian Jewish students. Additionally, Rav Sara leads the Jewish Learning Fellowship cohorts, hosts students for Shabbat meals in her home, mentors students and much more.

The Orthodox Union's Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (OU-JLIC) - a project of the Orthodox Union in partnership with Hillel - leads our service to the large Orthodox student population (the second largest Orthodox student population in the country). OU-JLIC at Queens College Co-Directors Rav Benny and Sara Berlin, along with their team of Educators and Fellows, teach classes; run men’s, women’s, and co-ed programming and events; mentor students; host students in their home for Shabbat meals; help organize minyanim; and much more.

Our Community Organizer Intern creates monthly learning opportunities with special guest speakers from organizations like Mechon Hadar, Drisha, Pardes, the Shalom Hartman Institute and JOFA. These learning opportunities are student designed and led and always include a delicious meal and the chance to meet new friends.
